Are you a salesman? Do you think you could pitch a new idea to a group of business leaders? Do you like watching the television show, Shark Tank? If so, the Agriculture Sales Career Development Event is for you!
The purpose of the National FFA Agricultural Sales Career Development Event is to evaluate and demonstrate skills that are essential for an individual to be successful within an Agriculture Sales career. Heather Loraas, a past Wyoming State Officer, says “This is a great opportunity for people that like to work in teams, but also enjoy individual success.” Here are six reasons why you and your chapter friends should put together an Ag Sales team!
- Team building skill
In the Ag-Sales CDE, the team must work together in the team activity of this competition. Using your teammates, you must develop a plan to market and sell your product.
Throughout this competition, you will learn not only your strengths and weaknesses, but your teammate’s as well.
- Learning how to actively listen
When you are selling something, listening is absolutely crucial. If your hypothetical customer wants lotion, why would you sell them soap? Throughout Ag Sales, while listening to your customers you must be able to think on your feet and change your approach quickly.
Who doesn’t like some friendly competition? In Ag Sales, or any FFA CDE for that matter, competition is real.
- Supporting local business
In the Wyoming FFA Ag Sales competition, there is a different local business picked each year to sell. Supporting local businesses is huge in Wyoming, and by advocating for them in our sales competition, you are assisting your local economy. And, you just might find out about new products you didn’t even know existed.
- Learning how to advertise
If you are planning on Agricultural Sales being your future career, advertising is a huge part of that. In this CDE you learn how to advertise effectively.
